Erick Van Saal is the coach of FC Barcelona when Tsubasa arrives to Spain. He is based on former Barcelona coach Louise Van Gaal.

Van Saal relegates Tsubasa to the second team (FC Barcelona B) and asks him to achieve 10 goals and 10 assists in order for him to be promoted to the first team. In his first three matches with Barça B, Tsubasa scores 12 goals and makes 11 assists, resulting in him being called up for the first team ahead of El Clasico, where he would make his La Liga debut.
