Spain vs Japan (Semifinals)

Spain vs Japan was the second semifinal game of the Madrid Olympic Games’ football tournament in Captain Tsubasa. It was played in the Bernabeu stadium (Madrid). Genzo Wakabayashi was unavailable for this match after getting injured in the quarterfinals against Germany.

Shun Nitta scored the first goal of the match for Japan in the 5th minute, with a Falcon volley shot. Rail scored shortly afterwards for Spain, but the goal was invalidated due to offside. The spanish team finally tied the match in the 21st minute, thanks to Michael scoring with a volley after a “self Raiju” shot. However, Japan took the lead again four minutes after, when captain Tsubasa scored with a Rolling Overhead Flying Drive shot. In the 37th minute Raphael tied the game again, assisted by Michael. The first half ended 2-2, and no substitutions were made at halftime.

In the 8th minute of the second half Tsubasa scored using Natureza and Santana‘s Full Metal Phantom technique, after consecutive rotating pases from Taro Misaki and Shingo Aoi. Shortly aftewards, in the 60th minute, Kojiro Hyuga scored the fourth goal for Japan, assisted by captain Tsubasa. After the goal Japan replaced Shingo Aoi and Nitta by Kazuki Sorimachi and Mitsuru Sano, since both starters were exhausted and having cramps. Spain also made a substitution, with veteran midfielder Valeron replacing forward Rail.

Things were looking good for Japan with a two goal advantage. However, in the 65th minute Spain scored the 3-4 with an amazing long distance shot by Michael, which combined several shot techniques from the best players in the world. Moreover, Michael scored again in the 75th minute after a one on one battle against Tsubasa, to even the score.

Around the 80th minute, Makoto Soda hit the crossbar with a new Razor Shot from outside the penalty box. Just before the end of the 90 minutes, Michael blocked a shot in Spain’s penalty area, and managed to dribble from there to the other box, scoring the 5-4 despite of the strong opposition by the japanese team, including Tsubasa.

After the goal Jun Misugi came in replacing Mamoru Izawa and Sergio Rams replacing Fersio Torres, to play the 5 minutes of stoppage time. Misaki scored the tying goal just before the final whistle.

Both teams made substitutions before the start of overtime, with Takeshi Sawada replacing and injured Sano for Japan, and striker Villan coming in place of left back Del Horeno.

This match was played in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium (Madrid).

Luikal scored for FC Barcelona in the first minute of the game, but the goal was cancelled because the referee judged that he was offside when Ozora Tsubasa passed him the ball. Tsubasa scored shortly aftewards with an Olympic goal (directly from a corner kick), but the goal was also erased from the scoreboard because of a fault in the area. Later on Rivaul scored assisted by Tsubasa, and this time the goal was deemed valid.

Natureza tied the game in the 22nd minute in a counterattack started by Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Callusias. In the 30th minute Rail found the back of the net, but he was offside and the goal (and Natureza’s assist) was not conceded.

At the beginning of the second half Gordoba Gonzales got a yellow card. Makelolo was also booked in the 75th minute. After this, coach Van Saal decided to replace Xavii and Luis Empoli with Cotu and Overus, switching his 4-1-4-1 formation for a more aggressive 4-2-1-3, moving Rivaul up forward and leaving Tsubasa as the only offensive playmaker.

However, in the 80th minute Natureza scored again assisted by Roberto Carolus. Right after this goal, Real Madrid’s coach Vicente Delpasque replaced Marientos and Makelolo for Gati and Samuela, sacrificing a forward in favour of a reinforced defensive midfield, now consisting of three players (Flavio Conces, Gati and Samuela) tasked with guarding Tsubasa. Moreover, in the 87th minute defender Sergio Ramon came into the pitch replacing Fago, to further reinforce defence.

Regardless of Real Madrid’s efforts to keep the score unchanged, Tsubasa managed to score in loss time (92th minute) assisted by Rivaul. With the final score of 2-2, Barcelona remained two points below of Real Madrid in the standings, still in the fight for La Liga.
